Russian Defense Ministry: Russian warplanes prevented US drones from approaching Russian airspace

The Russian Ministry of Defense issued a statement on August 5 that the same day Russian airspace monitoring equipment found an air target near the Russian border over the waters of the Black Sea, and a Su-30 fighter jet on duty of the Russian air defense forces immediately launched to identify the above targets and prevent them from violating the Russian border. The target was identified as a US Air Force MQ-9A Reaper drone.

 

The statement said that as the Russian warplanes approached, the US drone turned around and flew away from the Russian border. The Russian warplanes returned safely to the airfield. There was no violation of the Russian border. The Russian warplanes were flying in strict compliance with international rules governing the use of neutral waters over the air.
